MY INSPIRATION

I'm a huge fan of films and media texts that highlight major and trivial problems that prevail our society. The subject of Transgenders was something that first came into my mind after watching this short film. This short film was made to praise Prithika Yashini; India's first transgender police officer who went to great lengths to achieve the respect and position she holds now. This inspired me greatly, and made me realize that short films and stories like these can help increase awareness and bring change for the better in many ways. My plans to create a film opening with similar views were rendered unlikely with the fear of unavailability of dexterous actors that could portray the characters in a touching manner. Even though we found talented and fitting actors later on, we had decided another story. Nonetheless this short film pushed me to address social issues.

The matter of kidnapping children to force them into begging as a permanent means of earning is something widespread and known in our society. Yet efforts to have an action taken against this diabolical activity are almost void. It is completely depressing that these children have their childhood, be it in the slums, or in poverty, stripped away to work as minions; denied of free will. This heart touching aspect of the movie "Slumdog Millionaire" drove me to mold my ideas into producing a film opening that highlights similar views.

Initially my film opening was solely based on the concept of forced labor. The story was to revolve around a child that has aspirations, dreams and goals he works hard for, every day. His life takes a drastic turn as he is dragged into the circle of darkness, in the possession of these malicious human traffickers. The story has two parts, the second being of an able woman/man who gets exposed to this matter and essentially makes it her/his aim to direct the attention of higher authorities towards this problem so that they can take action. Eventually both sides of the narrative merge, and the child finds support to strive against more groups and gangs like these, and to help those children victimized by alike hardships.
